Houston, we have a problem and it’s called “The African Forest”

I’m a bit pressed for time, so this will be really short. The Houston Zoo is currently working on an exhibit titled “The African Forest.” This sounds like any other African exhibit, but it actually has a uniqueness that isn’t immediately discernible from its title : this exhibit features people. Of course, this is not the first time people, specifically African people, have been exotically exploited and displayed, but that is besides the point.  The thing to remember is that this is actually happening in 2010, the alleged, “post-racial” age of Obama. How ironic. Nevertheless, while I would love to point out more irony and vent my frustration and disgust with this exhibit in a vitriolic open letter to the Houston Zoo, as I said before, I’m pressed for time. More importantly, someone else has already done it way better than I ever could. Based on the amount of sheer stupidity that has been coming out of Texas recently,  if God really did bless Texas, we are beyond fucked.
